In November 2013, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brazil), in partnership with the Center for Sustainability Studies (GVces) of Sao Paulo Business Administration School at Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV-EAESP) launched the 'Innovation and Sustainability in Global Value Chains' project, aiming at creating a new export model for Brazil as a brand conveying innovation, competitiveness and sustainability.
Apex-Brazil aims at increasing competitiveness and promoting the business export culture and the structure of Brazilian production sectors. Apex-Brazil guidance focuses on the offering of products and services that 'can be acknowledged by their high level of innovation and differentiated design', produced according to sustainable practices.
Panorama of Brazilian Exportations
Although micro and small enterprises represents 44,3% of the total of Brazilian exporting companies, they represent only 0,9% of the total value of exportations (Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, 2013). According to experts, this scenario often occurs due to the lack of knowledge about the consumer market in different countries, as well as about storage, distribution, logistics and technical assistance for products abroad.
The ICV Global Project
The project aims to create the foundation for innovation in the assistance model to Brazilian micro and small businesses in their path to internationalization and positioning of products and services with high added value, presenting sustainability attributes to foreign markets.
In order to achieve this goal, the project assists innovative micro and small companies to export their solutions, by strengthening their sustainability attributes and helping them improve their export strategy and communicate their value proposition to target markets.
